MI 2012 Midterm Legislative Scorecard

In 2011, the majority in the current legislature added a new twist to this Lansing environmental doublespeak. Instead of simply opposing stronger protections like those proposed in Clean Water Action’s 2011 Water Protection Agenda, state lawmakers sought to dismantle our existing protections, often under the banner of “job creation.”
"Highlights" from the scorecard include:
- 67 Legislators who receieved a failing grade
- 58 Legislators who scored "0"
- House Leadership passed H.R. 136 - a symbolic vote in favor of the recently rejected Keystone XL Pipeline
- The Legislature failed to advance any of the safeguards outlined in our 2011 Water Protection Agenda

Energy efficiency programs save people money and shrink carbon footprints by helping customers reduce their need for electricity. The best ways for us to help Michiganders improve their energy efficiency is with programs that incentivize home weatherization, mechanical and lighting improvements, and upgrading to energy efficient appliances. Clean Energy Now (No New Coal)
The Clean Energy Now campaign formed in response to the "Coal Rush of 2008," during which eight proposals for new coal-fired power plants were put forward. We have been successful to this point in preventing new construction, but we need to remain vigilant and keep the pressure high on our elected leaders.
Children's Environmental Health
Protecting children from pharmaceutical lindane, working to ban the flame retardant, deca-BDE, working to promote alternatives to PBDEs, flame-retardants that are rapidly accumulating in our bodies and the Great Lakes, have been found to be toxic to animals and may threaten our own health are all part of our Children's Environmental Health Campaign
