New Jersey Development Director

The New Jersey Environmental Federation (NJEF), a state chapter of national Clean Water Action, and Clean Water Fund-NJ seek a Development Director based in New Jersey who has overall responsibility for the development, goal setting and "day to day" implementation of a statewide fundraising strategy for Clean Water Fund and Clean Water Action (dba NJEF). Particular emphasis is given to major donors and new foundation prospects. Achieve milestones in terms of dollars raised and number of donors (individuals and foundations) who have the potential to be longer term givers.

Responsibilities
  • Assist overall state fundraising plan (individuals donors and foundations) that takes advantage of existing member base and board contacts, identifies political givers, issue motivated donors, as well as foundations
  • Research, identify and cultivate new prospects, as well as expand depth of existing member donors
  • Research, identify and develop strategies to approach new foundation sources
  • Set detailed target goals, action steps and timelines in coordination with the State Director to attain the desired number of new donors and dollars raised
  • Articulate organization mission, goals, needs and request for support in oral presentations and written materials
  • Develop strategies that will expand name affinity or relationship with organization in certain circles
  • Perform follow up functions and communications with potential and current donors
  • Maintain written records and tracking systems in an agreed up on electronic format
  • Evaluate progress and make adjustments in the plan as needed on a monthly basis
  • Make presentations to the statewide Board
Qualifications

Minimum of 2 years of experience relevant to the skills and responsibilities of this position:

  • Time management, multi-tasking and meeting deadlines
  • Interpersonal, motivational and "people" skills

This is a 6 month position with every hope and desire to make it permanent. Ability to continue is based on measurable progress and success achieved within the 6 month probation period.

Compensation

Salary based on qualifications and experience. Benefits package available.

Supervision

Supervised by the NJ State Director of the state chapter of Clean Water Action (aka NJ Environmental Federation) and Clean Water Fund. Work in coordination with the national development department team, other staff and Board members.
