California Trades Safety for Protecting Polluters

The State of California is proposing a drinking water standard for perchlorate, the primary component of solid rocket fuel, of 6 parts per billion (ppb). Perchlorate affects the thyroid and can lead to impaired brain development in fetuses and infants. The 6 ppb standard is not adequately health protective of the most vulnerable portions of our population and protects the parties who contaminated the drinking water of approximately 20 million Californians from having to clean up much of their pollution. That is why Clean Water Action, California advocates for a scientifically supported standard of 1 ppb.

Please take one minute to tell Governor Schwarzenegger that you want to put the health of our children before the needs of the polluters. To do so, we need a perchlorate drinking water standard of 1 ppb in California. Address your comments to Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger State Capitol Building, Sacramento, CA 95814. You can email them to www.govmail.ca.gov or fax them to 916-445-4633. The deadline for comments is November 3, 2006. Thank you for your help!

Write to your elected officials who have not yet signed on to the Clean Water Authority Restoration Bill and demand they push for protection of our waterways and our future!

The Governor's $222 Billion Infrastructure Proposal?
Demand Real Solutions for California and our Water!

Governor Schwarzenegger is proposing a tax and borrow plan to spend on public infrastructure. The people of California need and deserve: drinking water protection, flood protection, and pro-active protection of our deltas, wetlands, rivers and other drinking water sources. Also, fees for water use should directly correlate with the amount of water being used. In other words, industries need to pay their fair share instead of burdening individual water users. We need to take action by writing to our elected officials demanding that this bond money has real value for the communities in California.

Protect CA’s Coast From Oil Drilling

The 2005 Energy Bill proves that the Bush administration has their sights on our coastline. Californians have consistently valued marine life, coastal communities, and tourism before the short-term profits of the fossil fuel industry. Please join CWA in opposing offshore oil drilling on these fronts:

OIL AND WATER DON'T MIX

Support the renewal of the Congressional Moratorium on Offshore Oil-Drilling.
