First Annual Everglades Action Day!

Everglades advocates and members of the Everglades Coalition from around the state joined together in Tallahasee to celebrate the first annual Everglades Action Day!

Last year, the Florida Legislature officially recognized April 7th as Everglades Day to honor the birthday of Marjory Stoneman Douglas, a true champion of Everglades restoration.

The inaugural Everglades Day event included more than fifty supporters from across the state joining together in Tallahassee to meet with state lawmakers and legislative staff about the importance of funding restoration projects. Seven teams of advocates met with Senators and Representatives from their region.

We Need to Know More About the Chemicals in our Products!

chemistryflask_DainHubleyChildhood cancer, infertility, learning and developmental disabilities are rising at alarming rates. Studies consistently show links between toxic chemicals used in everyday consumer products and many of these negative health impacts. We can avoid these chemicals, but we need to be able to make informed decisions about the products we use.

Tell your State Legislators to give your family important information about toxic exposure by ensuring the Chemical of High Concern is voted on and passed this year.

From the Florida Director | Winter 2013

2012 Progress, More to Come in 2013

January 2012 started with an extended Florida state Legislative Session. Clean Water Action and our allies were on the defensive, fighting — and winning — against well-funded adversaries. With your help, we defeated attempts to pre-empt local governments’ right to establish more protective urban fertilizer ordinances, to extend water usage permits to more than 30 years without adequate review, and to permit oil and gas drilling in ecologically sensitive areas. Clean Water Action helped spotlight the incredible value the Everglades brings to our economy and water supply by working to establish Everglades Day on April 7th every year. \

Gearing Up for 2013 in Florida

Clean Water Action kicks off its campaign to educate newly elected officials starting in early January 2013 by meeting with local, state, and federal decision-makers on critical water quality, clean energy, and public health issues important to Florida’s economic future. In Washington, DC, Congress will convene in mid-January.

Florida’s Legislative Session will begin on March 5. However, both state and federal legislative committees are already meeting to discuss priority bills for 2013. Locally, Clean Water Action will be identifying new environmental leaders to champion initiatives that promote water quality protection, sound local planning decisions and Everglades restoration.
