Join us for a Clean Energy Lobby Day, March 15!

dirtyair

The New Jersey Environmental Federation is part of a broad coalition calling for a clean energy future in NJ that includes continued participation in the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) and stopping Gov. Christie from taking more of our clean energy money away. We are organizing a Clean Energy Lobby Day on March 15 in Trenton--please join us and help us meet our goal of getting 200 people at the statehouse.

Let's show Governor Christie and our Legislators how many New Jerseyans will fight for a clean energy future!

On Thursday, March 15, meet at the Historic Trenton Masonic Temple, 100 Barrack Street in Trenton at 11:00 am for a morning briefing, plan for the day, and to hear from legislative champs who are fighting for clean air and clean energy.

All attendees please RSVP by emailing Jenny Vickers at jvickers@cleanwater.org. If you need transportation, there are charter buses from Red Bank, Belmar, Ridgewood, and Cranford that will arrive at Trenton at 10:00 am. To arrange a spot on the bus, contact Dan DeRosa of Environment New Jersey at 609-392-5151, ex. 310.

Why You Should Join Us

On March 15, the NJ Legislature could be voting on the "No Clean Air Rollback" bill (S1322/A1998) which would block Governor Christie from abandoning RGGI, a successful clean energy program that reduces carbon emissions from power plants and stimulates economic growth.

Our goal is bring 200 people to Trenton to call for a clean energy future for New Jersey and show support for RGGI. RGGI is a successful market-based program that provides a limited number of tradeable carbon dioxide (CO2) allowances which the states auction off four times a year. As of last year, the money raised at these auctions totaled $952 million. The funds are used for consumer programs such as energy assistance for low income households and energy efficient measures. RGGI also creates jobs in the clean tech sector, one of the most dynamic segments of our state economy.

Unfortunately, Gov. Christie intends to back out of the program, squandering the state's opportunity for over $680 million in funding for clean energy over the next 8 years! We can't let this assault on our clean energy economy continue-Gov. Christie has already cut $700 million in clean energy funds in the last three years.

Please join us on March 15 in supporting RGGI and its clean energy funds today! With your support, you can help fight for one of our most effective anti-pollution programs and green economy boosters.
