NJ Environmental Federation is part of a large coalition that has been working to oppose the proposed "PurGen" coal and chemical plant in Linden, New Jersey. This is an experimental, costly, and unneeded project that would include a pipeline that stretches 100 miles into the ocean in an attempt to bury carbon dioxide a mile and a half below the ocean floor.
This "Clean Coal" plant is still plenty dirty. It will:
NJ Environmental Federation has been successful in getting Governor Christie and the Linden City Council to take a strong stance against this expensive coal proposal. However, the most sure fire way to stop this plant, and a good thing of itself, is to replace it with a truly green alternative.
Please contact the Governor, thank him for his opposition to date, and urge him to do all he can to kill this project and replace it with permanent green jobs for New Jersey residents.

Dear Governor Chris Christie,
Thank you for your strong opposition to the PurGen coal plant proposal. New Jersey cannot afford unproven and dirty technology like "clean coal" anywhere, but especially in places Iike Linden, NJ.
As you know, NJ already fails to meet minimum federal health standards for air pollution, and investments are better spent on clean energy such as wind and solar.
Please do everything in your power to quickly stop the PurGen coal plant and replace it with positive uses of the Linden site such as a solar farm or wind turbine manufacturing facility which would create more permanent jobs for NJ residents.
Sincerely,
