FPL One Step Closer to Gas Plant Expansion
On January 5, 2016 the Florida Public Service Commission gave Florida Power and Light (FPL) the initial green light to build a $1.3 billion, 1,633 megawatt natural gas-fired power plant in Okeechobee County.
FPL claims the facility is needed to meet the future needs of Florida’s rapid population growth. Clean Water Action contends that the state does not provide incentives for energy conservation and renewables like solar power and allows the utility to continue to invest in costly new projects.
