As a source of drinking water, a beloved recreation area, and key commercial and shipping route the Great Lakes are facing massive environmental threats. Clean Water Action, as a leading member of the Healing Our Waters coalition, is working to protect the Great Lakes we love and clean them up for future generations to enjoy.

The Healing Our Waters-Great Lakes Coalition (HOW) consists of more than 125 environmental, conservation, and outdoor recreation organizations. Clean Water Action and Clean Water Fund of Minnesota are state leads for the coalition helping to develop and implement the strategic direction of work in Minnesota.  HOW member organizations represent millions of people who share a common goal: restoring and protecting North America’s greatest freshwater resources, the Great Lakes and Lake Superior here in Minnesota.

One of the main strategies of the HOW Coalition is maintaining a presence in Washington, D.C., to educate federal public officials about the importance of Great Lakes restoration through events like Great Lakes Days. In late February, we will be leading a group of eight Minnesotans to go to D.C. and lobby our Congressional Delegation about protecting and restoring our shared national treasure.
