Clean Water Action has expertise across a range of environmental topics, with specialized knowledge on water-related issues, programs and policies.

Our expert staffers include:

Lynn Thorp, Clean Water Action National Campaigns Coordinator and Senior Policy Specialist
Ms. Thorp serves on the federal Environmental Protection Agency's National Drinking Water Advisory Council and rulemaking advisory groups involved with drinking water standards. She is also the Policy Work Group Leader for the Coming Clean Collaborative, which represents individuals and groups working on chemical policy reforms.

  • Water
    Drinking water: Safe Drinking Water Act, source water protection, contaminant standards, treatment and distribution systems, total coliform rule, contaminant candidate list, proposed rule for permitting carbon sequestration facilities through underground injection program.
  • Global Warming and Energy
    Nuclear energy, federal global warming policy, global warming impacts, renewable energy, energy efficiency, coal to liquids, carbon sequestration, international environmental policy.
  • Chemical Policy
    Precautionary principle theory, shifting paradigm in chemical policy and environmental health protection, Toxic Substances Control Act, United State chemical policy, international chemical policy treaties, polyvinyl chloride plastics, chlorine chemistry, state chemical policy reform efforts (SAFER and others), history of grassroots toxics movement, environmental justice history/theory/practice.

Roger Smith, Clean Water Action National Energy & Climate Program specialist
Working out of Connecticut, Mr. Smith's extensive policy expertise is grounded in state-based energy solutions and policies. He coordinates the Connecticut Climate Coalition of 90 groups who represent 500,000 state residents. Since 2005 he has worked in communities and at the state capitol to meet Connecticut's global warming commitment through expanded efficiency programs for electricity and home heating, increased investments in clean energy, reductions in diesel soot, cuts in power plant CO2 emissions as well as comprehensive state energy planning.
