Local Control Press Conference

Local Officials to Call on State Legislature to Preserve Rights
Joint letter signed by local officials across the state concerning Marcellus gas drilling

Press conference held by conference call to announce the release of a letter jointly signed by dozens of municipal and county officials urging the state legislature to preserve existing rights to enact local zoning ordinances concerning Marcellus Shale gas drilling operations.

  • Monday, November 14, 10:00 am
  • Press conference will be held by conference call. Please contact Myron Arnowitt, marnowitt@cleanwater.org for the call-in number and passcode

Speakers will include municipal officials who have signed the letter as well as environmental organizations concerned with preserving local Marcellus Shale ordinances.

Votes are scheduled the week of November 14 in both the State House and State Senate on bills (HB 1950 and SB 1100) that would either eliminate or restrict the ability of local governments to enact zoning ordinances concerning Marcellus Shale gas drilling operations.
