"Clean Water Action and our more than one million members nationwide applaud President Biden and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on the final regulations to sharply reduce methane and other harmful air pollutants produced by the oil and gas industry. These pollutants pose significant risks to people’s health and accelerate climate change while promoting the use of cutting-edge methane detection technologies. Long overdue reductions in methane pollution, including the first-ever requirements for existing sources, is crucial to heading off the the worst impacts of climate change, including on water resources and public health. These are important protections for the health of frontline communities, especially low-income and communities color that are more vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. It also complements state level policies that Clean Water Action has supported.  In 2022, Clean Water Action in Pennsylvania helped secure regulations to reduce volatile organic compounds and methane from existing conventional and unconventional oil and gas facilities."
