Clean Water Action Urges Congress To "Step It Up On Global Warming"
South Dakota Residents to Gather at Big Stone City on April 14, 2007

April 4, 2007

Sioux Falls, SD—Clean Water Action South Dakota today announced its participation in "Step It Up 2007", a nationwide movement that serves as an organizing hub for a National Day of Climate Action and implores in its tag line: "Step It Up Congress! Cut Carbon 80% by 2050". Scheduled for April 14, 2007, Clean Water Action South Dakota will join the initiative with a presentation and live discussion of An Inconvenient Truth at the Big Stone American Legion Hall from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Big Stone City, South Dakota. Clean Water Action's Diana McKeown, who worked closely with former Vice President Al Gore to spread the message about the threat of and solutions to global warming, will be the Keynote Presenter at this event.

"The vast majority of scientists agree that global warming is real, already happening and is the result of our activities. If the warming is not reduced, we can expect catastrophic consequences. Step It Up recognizes that our nation is in this together and encourages people to act now and work together in reducing global warming. Clean Water Action has selected the location of the proposed site of Big Stone II to educate people on global warming, the effects our emissions will have if not reduced, and how everyone can make a difference in reducing warming," said Mary Jo Stueve State Program Coordinator for Clean Water Action South Dakota.

Stueve went on to say that South Dakota has passed new coal tax breaks and approved the building of Big Stone II without considering other sources of energy such as wind which is clean, renewable and an inexhaustible resource in South Dakota. She says that not only could this source of energy strengthen our states economy, but also could address global warming issues.

Step It Up is a nationwide campaign comprised of over 1000 events in 50 states rallying around the need for bold and immediate action on the issue of global warming. Events are being held in every corner of the country, from Maine to Hawaii, and Seattle to Key West. The Step It Up events have been organized by organizations and individuals from all walks of life who agree on one thing: the need for substantial and rapid action in order to stave off the disastrous effects of global warming.
