Climate Action Pledge

I hereby pledge to take personal action to reduce my household's global warming impacts by two percent or more in the year ahead. I join Clean Water Action in supporting a responsible, sustainable energy policy, effective actions to curb global climate change, and strong protections for America's water resources.

I Will Take Action:

Contact my Congressional delegation and ask them to co-sponsor S.309 (the Global Warming Pollution Reduction Act) or H.R.1590 (the Safe Climate Act).
Send a letter to the editor of my local newspaper(s) recommending action to reduce global warming and climate change.
Contact my state legislators and local officials, and ask them to promote energy conservation, efficiency, and renewable energy sources.

At Home I Will:

Replace incandescent light bulbs or older lighting with cool, energy saving alternatives and high-efficiency fixtures.
Unplug or completely switch off non-essential appliances such as televisions, computer monitors and other electronic equipment (so that it is not just in "sleep" mode, which still uses power) when I am away from home.
Maintain my vehicles, and keep tires properly inflated to ensure the most fuel-efficient operation and reduce pollution.
Keep thermostats set at least 2 degrees warmer during the summer and 2 degrees cooler during the winter.
Purchase "green power" if offered by my local utility or request this option if it is not yet available.
Recycle:
cans
plastic bottles
glass
paper
Stop using chemical fertilizers (fertilizer production is energy-intensive).
