Celebrating a Clean Water Victory in Maryland!
Last month, Charles County Commissioners voted 3/2 in favor of a new Comprehensive Growth Plan that will preserve Charles County’s precious natural resources and high quality of life for generations to come. This plan will protect the Mattawoman Creek watershed from further development, helps residents obtain conservation easements, prevent major sub-divisions from being developed in rural areas, and calls for a ban on fracking. Thanks to Commissioners Amanda Stewart, Ken Robinson, and Commissioner President Peter Murphy, Charles County can now move in a direction that promotes a bold and promising vision for its future.
The Comprehensive Plan would not have been possible without the hard work from partners in the Charles County Smarter Growth Alliance, which Clean Water Action is a member of. Thanks to the tireless advocacy efforts from both local community activists and statewide environmental organizations, the voices of the citizens were heard. Clean Water Action looks forward to continuing to work with these incredible organizations and individuals for equitable and smart development in Southern Maryland!
