More people than ever voted this year. There was a lot of interest in the elections and a number of states expanded access to mail-in voting and expanded opportunities for early voting. There was also lots and lots of education and outreach to voters and potential voters, making sure they were registered and ready to vote.
But despite these efforts, we have a lot further to go to restore and strengthen our democracy, and to make it truly representative and responsive.
The For the People Act is an important bill that expands access to the ballot box, reduces money-in-politics, and strengthens ethics laws — all to make our democracy more inclusive.
Right now, the dominance of big money in politics, political gerrymandering and corruption is eroding our democratic norms and giving more power to corporate special interests, instead of we, the people.
The For the People Act (H.R. 1) would:
- Expand and protect voting rights and access to the ballot;
- Put ordinary Americans ahead of Big Money donors;
- End gerrymandering so that electoral districts are fairly drawn;
- Clean up government and hold elected officials to the highest ethical standards.
That’s why the For the People Act (H.R. 1) must be a priority for the next Congress. Sign the petition today!
