March for a Moratorium: No New Fossil Fuel Projects!

Monday, September 16, 2019 (All day)
25 Bordentown Chesterfield Rd
Chesterfield, NJ 0815
srl pipeline construction

Governor Murphy wants New Jersey to use 100 percent clean energy by 2050. Scientific data tells us we need to get off fossil fuels even sooner, or else we are headed to climate catastrophe. There are 15 proposed fracked gas projects in the state of New Jersey, we are not going to achieve any climate goals if we allow these projects to move forward.

The Southern Reliability Link (SRL) fracked gas pipeline started construction after our collective call for a moratorium on fossil fuel projects and on Governor Murphy's watch. Even if the pipeline never gets turned on, the ecological damage from construction will already be done if the pipeline continues getting built.

On the final day for public comments on New Jersey's draft Energy Master Plan (EMP), we will march from Bordentown, NJ (near SRL pipeline construction) to Trenton (where our key decision makers work). We are demanding a halt on SRL pipeline construction and an immediate moratorium on all new fossil fuel projects in NJ.

Who: Anyone and everyone who wants a moratorium now on all new fossil fuel infrastructure

What: We are marching for a fossil fuel moratorium from the area of SRL pipeline currently under construction to our decision makers in Trenton

When: Monday, September 16th, 10am - 4pm

Where: Starting at 25 Bordentown Chesterfield Road, Chesterfield, NJ

Logistics:
  • We plan to meet in Bordentown at 10:00 AM, where we will have a short rally before stepping off around 10:30 am. The route from Bordentown to Trenton is approximately 10 miles and will take about four hours to complete. Our walk will end at the NJ State House Annex with others that are unable to walk for a short rally.
  • Our March will be supported by the Bus For Progress. They will be providing visibility, bathroom stops, water refilling, snacks, and transportation back to our parked cars at the end of the event (from the State House). They will be accepting donations to defray costs. If you would like to ride the bus back to your car, a donation of $10 - $15 is suggested. If you live in Monmouth or Ocean Counties, you can ride the bus to and from the event itself. Visit their website at www.busforprogress.org for details.
  • For our walkers, come prepared with everything you need for a 10 mile walk, comfortable clothing, snacks / pack-able lunch, refillable water bottles.
  • We are hoping for cooperating weather, but we are holding September 18th open just in case we need a rain date.
We hope to see you there - RSVP here!
