PROVIDENCE- Clean Water Action is pleased to announce its endorsement of US Congressman Jim Langevin and US Congressman David Cicilline in the general election on November 3rd, 2020.

Congressman Jim Langevin has worked to represent Rhode Island’s environmental concerns and priorities at the national level since his election in 2000. He is the House sponsor of the 2019 bill that designated the Wood-Pawcatuck River watershed as a National Wild and Scenic River System. He was also the sponsor of the Offshore WIND Act, which sought to incentivize the development of offshore wind projects. Additionally, he has been a leader in the energy efficiency space as the sponsor of Building Efficiently Act, which offered incentives for energy efficient construction and renovations.

Congressman David Cicilline is the sponsor of HR 287, the New England Coastal Protection Act, which would prevent offshore oil and gas leasing in the Outer Continental Shelf. He has also long been a champion for drinking water protections, including co-sponsoring an amendment to the Safe Drinking Water Act that would provide $22.5 million for lead service line replacement in vulnerable communities. Congressman Cicilline is also a leader in the House in the fight against climate change. He is a co-sponsor of bills to prevent the US withdrawal from the Paris Climate Accords, the 100% Clean Economy Act, and the Green New Deal resolution.

“Throughout their tenures in the US House of Representatives, Congressmen Langevin and Cicilline have worked tirelessly to ensure the protection of our state’s environment and stewardship of its natural resources,” said Johnathan Berard, Clean Water Action’s Rhode Island State Director. “At the national level, they are at the leading edge of efforts to comprehensively address the climate crisis, safeguard drinking and surface waters, and protect our vital marine resources. We look forward to working closely with them over the next two years to move the needle on these critical issues.”
