Washington DC -- Last night Donald Trump attempted to claim victory, declared further vote counting a fraud, and threatened to go to the Supreme Court despite the tens of millions of ballots that are still being counted. The race has not been called by any news organizations and elections officials across the country are working diligently to count every vote. The Trump campaign has also started the process of litigation in several states.

Clean Water Action President and CEO, Bob Wendelgass, released the following statement:

"Donald Trump is ridiculous, but his claims are dangerous. He is attempting to disenfranchise voters across the nation -- there are tens of millions of votes to be counted. The President needs to sit down, be quiet, and let the people be heard. It may be inconvenient to the President to listen to the voters, but that’s how democracy works. We expect the results to shift as more ballots are counted.

As we wait for votes to be counted and the race to be called, we’re making sure that our members are ready to take action to protect our vote. Voters came out in record numbers this year despite the pandemic and attempts by some to make it harder to vote -- it's clear they are ready for change. Their voices need to be respected.

Here’s the bottom line: Voters decide who wins, not the candidates."
