Clean Water Action is excited to welcome Reverend Vernon K. Walker to our team in Massachusetts! As our new Climate Justice Program Director, he will be leading our legislative and administrative climate justice agenda as well as supervising our Energy Efficiency Outreach Program.

"I am so excited to announce that we'll be working with Reverend Vernon Walker. Vernon comes with a wealth of connections in environment, labor, social justice, and faith. I've been incredibly impressed with Vernon as I've learned more about his organizing career thus far. In particular, Vernon has given many speeches as well as written op-eds on the topic of the intersections between racial justice and climate justice campaigns. I know he will bring this lens, shared deeply by all who work at Clean Water, into his work leading our climate justice campaigns,” said Maureo Fernández y Mora, Clean Water Action’s Interim State Co-Director.

“I wanted to join Clean Water Action because it is an organization whose mission is rooted in social justice and equity. I am looking forward to contributing to the great work that Clean Water Action already does that is connected to climate justice,” said Reverend Walker.

Reverend Walker joins Clean Water Action after most recently organizing with the Communities Responding to Extreme Weather program under the Better Future Project. He also brings his experience serving as an associate pastor over social justice for several years in Dorchester.

“I have done organizing work for almost 10 years, and I have seen it as a way to build power in underserved communities. I have been able to build strong relationships with many different communities in the Boston and greater Boston area, and I am excited to bring my experience to Clean Water Action,” he added.

Originally born and raised in Philadelphia, Reverend Walker attended Penn State University for college where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Organizational Leadership and a minor in Psychology. After graduating from Penn State University, he attended Boston University and earned a Master Degree in Theological Studies (M.T.S) with a focus on community engagement.

He is a Senior Fellow at the Environmental Leadership Program and Senior Fellow at Tufts University Jonathan M. Tisch College of Civic Life through the Institute for Nonprofit Practice, and he is a Senior Fellow at the University of Massachusetts, Boston campus Center for Collaborative Leadership. Reverend Walker currently is a graduate student at Tufts University pursuing a Master's in Public Policy degree with a focus on environmental justice. He is a 2022 Neighborhood Fellow.

Please join us in welcoming him to Clean Water Action!
