Newark, NJ – Today, Clean Water Action joined Vice President Kamala Harris and US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Director Michael Regan in Newark to discuss President Biden’s plan to follow Newark’s model to replace lead service lines using investments from the Bipartisan Infrastructure law and finally get the lead out of drinking water.
Kim Gaddy, National Environmental Justice Director for Clean Water Action, released the following statement:
“Everyone deserves access to safe, clean, affordable drinking water — but right now, 186 million people in the United States get their water from systems that still have lead service lines. Today is a historic opportunity to right the wrongs for EJ communities, like Newark, who experience a heavier burden from pollution and health risks. These investments can create good jobs while tackling drinking water and water pollution challenges.”
